Rowing

I was lucky enough to discover rowing in 1990. Up until that point I'd never really enjoyed sport, except for a passing interest in the high-jump. I rowed for King's Chester for several years, then briefly for Churchill College first boat while at university. The 1990-1991 season was my most successful, and our sculling crew was placed first or second at every event we attended, including winning our event at The Schools' Head, Avon Counties Regatta, Reading Regatta and the National Rowing Championships, our only disappointment being a second place at National Schools' Regatta (an extremely close race in atrocious conditions at Homle Pierpoint!!). Here's a picture of our winning crew:

Rowing was quite a lot of fun, but I finally gave it up at Cambridge because there simply weren't enough hours in the day. That wasn't before I'd been to the national rowing camp, built a coxing aid, tried a spot of coaching and various other rowing-related activities! Here's a picture of our 1992 eight:

Coming soon... a picture of the Churchill 1st Boat, when I've grabbed it from my parents' wall and scanned it. Perhaps now is not the time to mention that Churchill's rowing kit is pink.
